The Child and Adolescent Psychiatry in Odense, Denmark create a safe space with presence and togetherness, where you can be yourself and meet new people.
Participants from “The everyday tester of psychiatry”, employees from Child and Adolescent Psychiatry in Odense, and representatives from lighting and furniture manufacturers work together, to improve the environment for the Child and Adolescent Psychiatry in Odense. The improvement should reduce the use of coercion.
Open idea development at Health Innovation Centre of Southern Denmark
The purpose with the interior decoration project is to create an environment, which can serve as a gathering place for the department. A place for children and young people, can sitting alone or in small groups, and a place where employees can solve tasks.
The Child and Adolescent Psychiatry hope that by creating a safe space with presence and togetherness, where children and young people can be together and alone, and an informal dialogue can happen, as we all know from the ones family kitchen.
The new physical environment is also an attempt to provide a constructive counterbalance to the use of force in the department.
Patients and relatives are involved
Patients are actively involved in the design of the new physical environment. Employees from the Health Innovation Centre of Southern Denmark has participated in field studies in Child and Adolescent Psychiatry Odense, where they talked with the children, young people and their relatives.
Both the children and the young people conveyed how important it is to feel save, an intimacy relation to the employees is an important part of feeling safe, which counteract and prevent conflicts.
The physical layout of the common gathering place should live up to the wishes and need from the children and young people.
Companies are involved
At the workshop, manufacturers of lighting solutions and furniture also attended. They were invited to join the project because they can contribute with furniture and lighting concepts that support an atmospheric environment.
